How large
EPA puts the line at about ten square feet. Below it, most homeowners clean up themselves and EPA says so plainly. Above it, the work is containment, negative air and HEPA filtration, because disturbing growth without them moves it around the house.

What insurance does with mold
Mold that followed a sudden, accidental escape of water is usually treated with that loss. Mold that grew from a slow leak is a gradual loss, and gradual losses are excluded. That single distinction decides most mold claims, and it is decided by how the water got there rather than by how bad the growth is.
